I looked for a job at a big, well-known company that I hoped would train me to do something, but I didn't know or care what, really, just so long as I was on some new set of tracks. The fall after graduation I was on the night shift at Fidelity Investments customer service, answering people's questions about why the value of their mutual fund went down. You can just decide to be more curious, or more responsible, or more energetic, and no one's going to go look up your college grades and say, "Hey, wait a minute, this person's supposed to be a slacker."
