Researchers tune into Arctic under-ice sounds and test through-ice communication
During the U.S. Navy's Operation Ice Camp 2026, MIT Lincoln Laboratory researchers deployed high-fidelity geophones to detect vibrations in the Arctic sea ice. They also tested magnetically transmitting data through Arctic lagoon ice with a prototype modem from industry partner Havguard in Barrow, Alaska, through UIC Science.
