23andMe’s data breach: cyberattack was missed for months


Genetic ancestry tracing company 23andMe admitted the data hack they suffered from in 2023 went unnoticed for months.

A new legal filing revealed that hackers first started breaking into customers’ accounts in April 2023, and that this continued right up until the end of September that year. Some of the data the hackers stole includes birth years, relationship labels, locations, DNA percentages, and customer names. She’s also appeared on BBC Radio 5 and The Guardian podcast to share her expertise on technology, influencers, and niche internet subcultures.
