3D Rotation Design
Introduction When interacting with 3D models on a 2D screen, users expect to be able to spin the model around and inspect it from all angles. This turns out to be a fascinating HCI problem, with a large corpus of research into different system designs.
This turns out to be a fascinating HCI problem, with a large corpus of research into different system designs. This system allows rotation to an arbitrary angle, but feels very unintuitive: users end up "tumbling" the model by moving the mouse in small circles, walking towards the desired target position. Interestingly, we mix turntable and trackball rotation in Preform, Formlab's 3D printer host software.
