'AI Jesus' Is Now Taking Confessions at a Church in Switzerland

A church in Switzerland has drummed up a controversy by employing an AI version of Jesus in its confessional.

Peter’s Chapel in Lucerne, Switzerland, recently unveiled “Deus in machina,” an “experimental art installation” that features an AI version of Jesus in the confessional booth, according to its website. The church has encouraged visitors to “share their thoughts and questions” with AI Jesus, though it clarified that this shouldn’t be considered the Sacrament of Confession. Another person told the outlet that AI Jesus, who speaks 100 languages, gave a “great” answer to their question about being rational and faithful, while another man dubbed the experience “a gimmick for sure.”
