Stanford chemists are pioneering efforts to stabilize the variability of renewable energy on the electrical grid with a groundbreaking liquid battery designed for long-term storage. This innovative system, known as a liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) battery, aims to efficiently store energy and mitigate fluctuations in renewable power production without adverse effects. “We are developing a novel approach for selectively converting and storing electrical energy in liquid fuels,” explained Robert Waymouth, a Stanford chemistry professor, in a university news release.
