A Woman Who Turned a Hospital into a Crime Scene
On February 19, 1994, the emergency room at Riverside General Hospital looked just like any other California hospital on a Saturday night.
She handed the sample to a medical resident, Dr. Julie Gorchynski, who looked down and saw something floating in it—yellow-brown particles, like crystals or sand. California’s Department of Health and Human Services brought in two scientists: Dr. Ana Maria Osorio and Dr. Kirsten Waller. And while the science sort of made sense, many chemists said the reaction would have taken too long to happen in real life.
