Indeed, our VP at the time, who had his own reasons to move to GDM, managed to create a toxic work environment, making it even harder for us to adjust. The upshot was that several of us in our group spent a lot of time trying to find a project that seemed both interesting from a research perspective, and potentially useful to the new organization. What followed was an even more absurd circus where groups in our larger “Foundational Research” unit were invited to submit short proposals for projects, which would then be reviewed by some opaque process.
