A leaked version of the Paris AI summit document omits key commitments made at Bletchley Park in 2023 in ‘negligence of an unprecedented magnitude’
However, concerns over a leaked draft of the joint statement, published by the Transformer newsletter, have been raised by Professor Stuart Russell, president of the International Association for Safe and Ethical AI. Of particular concern to Russell was the failure to repeat the commitments in the Bletchley Park declaration to address the serious and catastrophic harm posed by AI models in cybersecurity, biotechnology and disinformation. He said it would get away from the “false binary between existential safety and regulatory capture,” but that he did not expect major US AI companies to be part of the foundation, except for the open source platform Hugging Face.
