Amazon CEO Andy Jassy tells workers: AI will replace some of you

In a message sent to employees this week, Jassy said generative AI was a "once-in-a-lifetime" technology that completely changes what's possible for customers and businesses.

But Amazon boss Andy Jassy has just said the quiet part out loud, admitting that the technology will reduce the company's corporate workforce over the next few years. Then came the part most executives skip over: "It's hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company." Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently warned that the technology could wipe out about half of all entry-level white-collar jobs in the next five years, leading to unemployment spikes of up to 20%.
