Amazon Just Happens to Hold Book Sale During Independent Bookstore Day

And, wouldn’t you know it, Amazon just so happens to be hosting its second annual book sale (two being less than 12, if you’re keeping count) from April 23 through the 28th, encompassing the day that has been claimed by local shop across the country. If you are tempted to give Amazon a pass here for maybe accidentally encroaching upon their competitors’ space—and if you are, bless your sweet innocence—it’s perhaps worth noting that their first big book sale event in 2024 took place from May 16 through the 20th, notably a few weeks after Independent Bookstore Day. Andy Hunter, founder of Bookshop.org, called it “cynical, manipulative, and cruel.” Leah Koch, owner of the Ripped Bodice, in Los Angeles, California, kept it simple: “Fuck Jeff Bezos,” she told Variety.
