Amazon's Vega OS coming to Fire TVs this year - what it means for your devices

Years in the making, the proprietary Linux OS that replaces Android-based FireOS is expected to be announced at next week's event. Here's everything we know so far.

Though the e-commerce giant is reportedly in talks with major publishers to integrate their apps into Vega OS, moving away from an Android-based system means developers need to adjust to building an application on a different framework. "The Prime Video Fire TV organization is seeking an engineering leader that will help in building a Vega OS product that will delight customers worldwide," the listing stated. For now, Vega OS is only expected to run on new Fire TV devices, which means Amazon will continue to support Android-based FireOS for some time.
