Another bill wants to ban kids from social media

It’s meant to “complement” KOSA and COPPA 2.0.

The bill, which would prevent kids under 13 from creating social media accounts, advanced through the Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday, as reported earlier by Politico. Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the bill, positioning it as a way to curb the “unprecedented mental health crisis” affecting young people. “The guessing is going to be, in some measure, inaccurate,” Kate Ruane, director of the Free Expression Project at the Center for Democracy and Technology, said in about this form of age verification.
