Apple Introduces Visual Intelligence: A New Feature to Identify Real-World Objects

Apple introduces Visual Intelligence, a new iOS 18 feature allowing iPhone 16 users to identify real-world objects through the camera. Learn how this tool works and its potential uses.

During Apple’s September event, Craig Federighi demonstrated how Visual Intelligence works, saying it allows you to “learn about everything you see instantly.” The feature is activated using the new Camera Control button found on the side of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro. Whether you’re snapping a picture of a restaurant to check its operating hours or capturing a flyer for event details, the app automatically records relevant information like location and dates. Federighi also mentioned that Visual Intelligence will connect to third-party services, making it possible to search for items or concepts, like identifying a bike model or understanding study notes.
