Apple Rhapsody Report (1997)

Subject: Rhapsody Report Date: Tue, 3 Jun 97 11:52:17 -0400 From: "Steve M. Chazin" <chazin@apple.com> To: Folks, This is the most detailed Rhapsody report I've ever seen and it comes from folks in academe.

While it might be technically possible to design and implement a unified Finder used by both sides, this would be very difficult, it would take a very long time to develop and hence would delay the release schedule, and it would be much more likely to break existing Mac OS software running in the blue box. It may be possible to hack together a solution to this problem (e.g., using critical section wrappers around non-thread safe toolbox calls), but it would be difficult, and Apple's official line is that it most likely won't happen for the Unified release. If Apple delivers this system on-time and executes it well, and manages to solve the very difficult problem of passing the "Mom test", I think the result will make today's Mac and Windows PCs look like toys.
