Apples $599 iPhone 16e is now available for preorder

Apple's first budget smartphone in three years starts at just $599.

Apple announced the iPhone 16e Wednesday, its first budget smartphone in three years — and its first-ever smartphone with an in-house cellular modem. Customers can get up to $170 in credit by buying it through the Apple Store and trading in an older Apple phone, or up to $599 in credit with a trade-in at eligible third-party carriers. Preorders open on Friday, Feb. 21, ahead of the iPhone 16e's formal launch a week later on Feb. 28.
