Arc creator Josh Miller on why you need a better browser than Chrome

The creator of Arc on browser competition, the future of the web, and where AI search fits in.

At the same time, it also puts Arc right in the middle of one of the fiercest debates in tech and media today: whether AI companies and products are boosting content from the open web and then turning around and selling it to consumers — all without paying the people who produced that work anything at all. Josh says the plan is to keep Arc free but monetize a mix of customization, automation, and productivity tools that will make users’ lives so much easier that they, or the company they work for, pay a subscription fee. And yes, as part of that, when you type in the most popular text box on your computer, we can now take you and route you to lots of different places that oftentimes are much more direct and on the nose for what you want and don’t just funnel you into the Google ecosystem because that’s how it’s always worked, because that’s what their business model is.
