On augmenting creativity
A key area we’ll touch on is the notion of semantic space—understood through recent advances in computational modeling you may be familiar with, like GloVe and word2vec embeddings—and that I’ve also discussed in this Substack as landscapes of meaning. In addition, we can adopt some of the distance metrics elaborated on in this article, like forward flow (FF), to illustrate to the user which points in the associative network are more semantically similar or distant. For example, the watermelon has become a symbol for a free Palestine and thus its integration into a work of art might link up to the kinds of associations that exist in the wider cultural sphere that are connected with Palestinian liberation.
