Australian airline Qantas accused of intimidating US-based engineers — Threats include that workers who support unionising will be out of a job, says lawyer

The airline strongly rejects the claims, which come as LAX-based mechanics and maintenance workers push for collective bargaining rights.

After the application was submitted, the IAM wrote to Qantas alleging senior management tried to intimidate workers over the ballot. “Unfortunately, we have received several reports that there are efforts to influence and/or intimidate employees at Qantas,” IAM associate general counsel Connie Vallas wrote in the letter. A Qantas spokesman said: “Our Los Angeles team is a key part of our engineering network, and we’re committed to engaging closely with all of our employees.”
