Australians’ prescription information and doctors’ personal information taken ransom in database hack on national infrastructure provider MediSecure


The government has reassured Australians that no documents need to be replaced as a result of the hack on the little-known technology company.

Australians’ prescription information was accessed in the hack on MediSecure, the national cybersecurity co-ordinator has confirmed, escalating the stakes in the ransomware case. Doctors’ personal information was also accessed by the anonymous hackers, along with Medicare numbers of an unknown portion of the Australians who received more than 143 million digital scripts between 2020 and 2023.
