Bill that will allow Wisconsin to start building a statewide EV charging network headed to governor

Legislation sent to Gov. Tony Evers will allow the state DOT to use $78.5 million to help private businesses install high-speed EV chargers

The change in the law is needed to allow the state Department of Transportation to disburse$78.6 million in federal financial assistance to private businesses that will own and operate high-speed charging stations. State transportation planners have been working on the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Initiative since 2021, when the national program was created as part of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The DOT's plan is to partner with convenience stores, retailers and other businesses to set up about 60 high-speed charging stations that would be placed about 50 miles apart along highways that have been identified as Alternative Fuel Corridors.
