Bringing Europe’s 2030 wind energy target within reach – one turbine at a time
The European wind industry is starting 2024 with new optimism. An uptick in permitting, new investments and auction volumes has brought the EU’s 2030 wind energy target within reach. But there is absolutely no room for complacency.
If the EU delivers its 2030 wind target this number will rise to 564,000 jobs, as new figures from Rystad Energy to be released at the WindEurope Annual Event 2024 in Bilbao show. It would help reduce fossil fuel imports by up to 200bn cubic meter per year and avoid 299 metric tonnes of lifecycle carbon dioxide emissions in 2030 alone. Their new manifesto includes a “Made in Europe 2030” plan aimed to ensure that “strategic infrastructure such as ports, telecommunication and energy facilities as well as our most innovative companies are shielded from takeovers by third countries, notably China.”
