The British government is urging companies to conduct in-person or video interviews when hiring, amid growing concerns that North Korean IT workers are disguising themselves as remote freelancers to infiltrate foreign firms, according to a report by The Guardian on Sunday. Google recently highlighted this trend in a new report, identifying the United Kingdom as a primary target for North Korean operatives seeking to secure disguised employment. John Hultquist, chief analyst of Google’s Threat Intelligence group, told The Guardian that North Korea is shifting focus to Europe, particularly Britain, as it becomes more difficult for its operatives to succeed in the U.S. job market.
