The Canonical Kernel Team confirmed their plans today that with the Ubuntu 25.10 release in October they are planning to employ the Linux 6.17 kernel.

The Canonical Kernel Team confirmed their plans today that with the Ubuntu 25.10 release in October they are planning to employ the Linux 6.17 kernel. This move isn't too surprising given the Canonical commitment last year to ship Ubuntu Linux with the very latest upstream kernel release as of release time. Ubuntu 25.10 should also be shipping with the GCC 15 compiler, GNOME 49 desktop, and a wealth of other software upgrades.
