Doing the work you love is hard when teams don't hire for it.
The first thing you notice if you live in this space, that void between design and engineering, is that job descriptions will gloss over their need for someone that actually knows HTML and CSS. Assuming it's not just one of those "lip service" roles, having a good enough base will give you some leeway to fill in the gaps and work on the things you think are important. I jotted down some quick notes on something that's been top of mind while on the job hunt: carving out the space to do the work I want.
