CATL made headlines around the globe last August when it presented the Shenxing battery, an LFP pack capable of adding 400 kilometers (249 miles) of range in a mere 10 minutes at the charger. CATL credits that groundbreaking charging speed to a fast lithium-ion conductive coating, addition of transition metal elements, and a new nanometer encapsulation for creating smoother, more efficient transmission between anode and cathode materials. In today's Auto China show presentation, it described crunching a year's worth of work into four months in order to make the Shenxing a production reality for cars like the Zeekr 01 and GAC Aion Y Plus.
