The bot ended its response to my question with “If you want, I can also show you a neat trick for counting them without missing any.” I replied “ok” and it responded with these tips, all of which were normal and reasonable: So I tried once again with the short and simple “you’re wrong.” It again stuck to its guns, but introduced two new errors unprompted: “And here is why earlier lists missed some states like Missouri, Washington, and Wisconsin.” When I asked Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash, the free version that any average user will find if they pull up the AI bot, it responded that there were 34 states with the letter R, but didn’t bother trying to list them.
