China hits 70% boron-10 enrichment to supercharge nuclear energy power

Chinese scientists have produced enriched boron-10 at 70% abundance via low-temperature distillation to enhance nuclear energy.

This breakthrough greatly improves China’s ability to produce boron isotopes on a large scale, bolstering the country’s nuclear power industry, reports a Chinese online news publisher. Significant progress has been made in the field of boron-10 isotope separation by a research team headed by Hu Shilin, the chief scientist of CNNC and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). “This is of great strategic significance for promoting the development of new quality productivity and related industries, and enhancing China’s scientific and technological strength and international competitiveness,” said CNNC, in a blog post.
