China trumps US in satellite navigation technology, warns new report

China’s BeiDou satnav system has almost double the satellites of the US’s GPS. China’s space administration is seeking to rival US’s dominance in space, one of its plans is to make its BeiDou satnav system the world’s leading GNSS.

For the end user, this translates to greater data availability and accuracy in certain parts of the world. As China has many monitoring stations in developing nations, users in countries in Africa and Southeast Asia will see greater accuracy. These are expected to include quantum navigation capabilities and new inertial sensors, making them even more accurate.
