China's perovskite cells retain nearly 80% efficiency after 550 hours

Researchers in China have achieved a power conversion efficiency of 28.49% of two-junction all-perovskite tandem solar cells.

A team of researchers from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China has achieved a record-breaking power conversion efficiency of 28.49% for an all-perovskite tandem solar cell. “The efficiency improvement of all-perovskite tandem solar cells is largely hindered by the surface defects induced non-radiative recombination loss in Sn–Pb mixed narrow bandgap perovskite films,” stated the study. The optimized device achieved a power conversion efficiency of 28.80%, with an impressive open-circuit voltage of 2.13 V, short-circuit current density of 16.06 mA cm−2, and fill factor of 84.19%.
