Chinese Honda EV plant replaces 30% workforce with AI & robotics

At its state-of-the-art EV factory in China's Guangzhou, Honda is slashing labor by 30% through the use of AGVs and AI-enhanced welding.

In partnership with local joint venture partner Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), the Japanese automaker has recently started production of the all-electric Ye P7 at this factory. The goal is clear and can be confirmed by the company’s statement from the same interview: “electrification as an opportunity to overhaul the way we produce vehicles” is a drive to reimagine the production process from the ground up. While practical task-specific automation, purpose-built machines like omnidirectional platforms equipped with robotic arms and integrated camera systems still remain the workhorse of modern factories.
