For those looking to replace their proprietary BIOS with the open-source Coreboot on a supported platform or are already doing so, Coreboot 25.03 is out today to provide the newest capabilities for this open-source BIOS/firmware solution.

Coreboot 25.03 delivers display handling improvements, a better USB debugging experience, CPU topology updates, various improvements to the open-source RAM initialization for aging Intel Haswell platforms, improved USB Type-C and Thunderbolt handling, various embedded controller (EC) improvements, better RISC-V architecture support, DDR5-7500 support, and many bug fixes across the sprawling Coreboot codebase. There is also support for the AMD "Crater" development platform that was used for Renoir SoCs, a number of old ASRock motherboards for Haswell era processors, and some new StarLabs devices as well as from NovaCustom. Also of note is the "Intel Ptlrvp" addition that is the reference platform for next-gen Panther Lake.
