American artist Judi Harvest has deep roots in Miami, where she cultivated a profound connection to waterway ecosystems and the diverse creatures that inhabit them, including waterbug insects, also known as aquatic macroinvertebrates. Later in life, during her time in creating in Venice, a city also intimately intertwined with water, Harvest became acutely aware of the troubling phenomenon of colony collapse disorder and the rapid decline in honeybee populations. From bringing in tons of soil, to carefully selecting and locating a diverse array of bee-friendly fruit trees and aromatic plants that would thrive and have prolonged blooming periods in Venice, to sourcing healthy adapted honeybees and constructing their shelters.
