Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster review - a mixed bag of changes to this zombie classic

Dead Rising's over the top zombie shenanigans are still a great time in 2024, but this is very much for first-time players only.

stickers for snapping pics of a man getting eaten alive or a gas station exploding - and that's before we get to the titular undead, now even grosser with their 2024 graphical polish, who act as the physical embodiment of this undying, destructive, occasionally cartoony need to consume, flocking to a what was probably 2006's biggest monument to capitalism: the shopping mall (though if Capcom was ever to make a new Dead Rising, they'd probably have to update the setting to an Amazon warehouse). Image credit: Eurogamer/Capcom Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster doesn't just remove the friction from simply moving around - rewards feel much bigger than before now, too, making certain encounters easier thanks to your larger pool of experience points. A useful bit of modernisation, no doubt, but I dunno - part of me quite enjoyed the grind in the original Dead Rising, and I have fond memories of racking up experience and prestige points, dying to an insurmountable enemy and then restarting with all my progress - and knowledge about where to find the best guns - carried forward.
