DeSantis Approves Social Media Ban For Kids Under 14 In Florida: What To Know

DeSantis previously vetoed a more restrictive proposal that would’ve restricted use for children under 16.

Children in Florida under 14 will no longer be allowed to make accounts on social media platforms beginning Jan. 1, 2025, under a new law signed by Gov. Children aged 14 and 15 can make social media accounts with parental consent—a key component lacking in the measure ( HB1) DeSantis vetoed. The past iteration of the legislation would have prevented children under 16 from making social media accounts that have “addictive features” and track user activity.
