DF Direct: Nope, the new Oblivion Remastered patch doesn't really fix performance, crashes or degradation issues

Digital Foundry Direct this week looked at the new Oblivion Remastered patch - is performance fixed? What about that memory leak crash? Well, it's not great.

To help limit the variables here to an extent, we restarted the Oblivion app between every run (closing the game to the system menu and re-opening), but the frame-rate remains erratic even in that best-case. Weirdly, certain visual and camera settings accrue from previously loaded saves - so we noticed the shading from Lumen's global illumination and ambient occlusion was entirely different in the Chestnut Handy Stable test when "charged", as it is in the Planes of Oblivion, perhaps hinting at why this performance degradation is taking place. Overall then, it's a huge disappointment for Oblivion fans on consoles, and perhaps suggests that at least some of the game's underlying issues are systemic in nature if they haven't yet been fixed after months of patching efforts.
