We shouldn’t apply regimes that utilize age verification technology against people who often face barriers to compliance, such as license suspension for unpaid, non-traffic safety related fines. The State of California is currently rolling out a “mobile driver’s license” (mDL), a form of digital identification that raises significant privacy and equity concerns.
