Elon Musk leaves DOGE amid tanking Tesla sales
Musk will refocus his attention on his businesses after his legally limited time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end.
Musk's slash-and-burn approach (similar to the one he adopted in his early days at X) played a role in hundreds of thousands of federal workers being turfed out — reportedly including some working at an agency that regulates Tesla. It demanded access to sensitive data including federal employee information and Treasury Department financial records, a request that a judge granted this week despite 19 attorneys general trying to prevent that over privacy and legal concerns. Its reputation has been damaged in the eyes of many given Musk’s political dealings, personal views, his association with DOGE, the agency’s actions and his efforts to help Donald Trump win the presidency.
