During the call, it was clear that Musk is intent on continuing to pursue the goal of deploying fully autonomous vehicles using a camera-only sensor suite and an end-to-end neural network that’s been trained on billions of driving miles from the company’s fleet. Of course, he made no mention of the major hardware replacement that millions of Tesla vehicles will require in order to achieve their promise of full self-driving — a process he previously described as “painful” and expensive. The Trump administration, led by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, have slashed thousands of jobs, including roles in regulatory agencies investigating the safety of Tesla’s self-driving systems.
