Both Apple’s and Microsoft’s extensions to the font file includes rules for “advanced” layout, which specify the updates and replacements to the glyph/location sequence. Then, the rest of the ‘morx’ table consists of a sequence of subtables which define a particular substitution or modification to perform, as well as which bit in the sub-feature vector that their operation is predicated on. TrueType uses the ‘glyf’ table, which defines the contours of each glyph as a sequence of quadratic bezier curves, laid back to front.
