Ex-Google employee charged with stealing AI tech, working with Chinese companies

Linwei Ding allegedly transferred confidential data onto his personal Google Cloud.

"Today's charges are the latest illustration of the lengths affiliates of companies based in the People's Republic of China are willing to go to steal American innovation," FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. The report also claims that Ding founded and served as chief executive of a China-based startup company set to train "large AI models powered by supercomputing chips." "After an investigation, we found that this employee stole numerous documents, and we quickly referred the case to law enforcement," a Google spokesperson told Android Central in a statement.
