Expert resigns from teen social media ban tech trial advisory board over concerns
'There's been some questions raised about the way that this trial was constructed,' said one of the trial's former stakeholder board advisory members.
“There were a lot of pitfalls being identified … and the early test results reported are suggestive of a very problematic future for age-assurance technology with high error rate and bypasses. Digital rights group Electronic Frontiers Australia’s chair John Pane, who has also served on the advisory committee, likewise questioned the limited release of information. Pane said he was confused how the report found that the trial was satisfied with its participants’ handling of personal information, while it also noted that there was an “increased risk of privacy breaches due to unnecessary and disproportionate collection and retention of data”.
