Explaining color gamuts and color spaces in HDTVs and monitors


If you’re confused by all the jargon used to describe your new monitor, don’t worry. We’ve got you (and your color gamut) covered.

As you might recall from middle school science class, color is simply how our squishy human eyes perceive different wavelengths of light. An HDR TV, on the other hand, is capable of at least 1,024 different levels of red, green, and blue each, for over 1.07 billion unique color combinations. A dark, starry night scene doesn't look as vivid if the “black” parts of the display are actually a light gray.
