Fake thinking and real thinking

(Image source here)And I have some related memory, on that same walk, of finding it useful to set down the concept of “AI” altogether, and to think, instead, about enhanced biological intelligence – i.e., genetically altered chimps; pigs with bigger brains; giant vats of neurons. Zbigniew Herbert, “Mr Cogito and the Imagination” “The Monk by the Sea,” Caspar David Friedrich (image source here) I’ll also name another “real thinking” tag for me – related, most centrally, to “scout mindset” – that I’ve been using lately, and which “arguments are lenses on the world” can conjure for me. It’s an image a bit like: how I currently look back at Paul Erlich’s “ Population Bomb ”; or at the various arguments that computers could never play chess; or at Democritus on atomism; or at Seneca writing “the time will come when diligent research over long periods will bring to light things which now lie hidden.” But unlike in these cases, I also find it helpful to imagine that this external party can see my psychological dynamics directly.
