The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed a new rule, under which carriers will have to unlock your iPhone or Android smartphone within 60 days of activation. When you buy a phone, you should have the freedom to decide when to change service to the carrier you want and not have the device you own stuck by practices that prevent you from making that choice” […] If you bought your phone at a discount in return for agreeing to a minimum length plan with a carrier, then you would need to pay any early redemption fee relating to that in order for the 60-day rule to apply.
