First functional human brain tissue produced through 3D printing | A team of researchers has created functional 3D-printed brain tissue to examine the brain's function and study various neurological disorders.

According to experts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, printed tissue can "grow and function like typical brain tissue."

The developers mention that they deliberately maintained the tissue's thinness to ensure optimal oxygen and nutrient intake for the neurons from the surrounding growth media. The multilayer printing allowed the cells to form connections, resulting in networks similar to those observed in human brains. The authors highlight that this method provides precision, allowing for control over cell types and arrangement.
