First-in-Nation Bill Requiring Cars to Warn Speeding Drivers Goes to CA Governor

Official website of Senator Scott Wiener, representing California Senate District 11.

The bill is supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Association of City Transportation Officials. The National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) notes that “a person hit by a car traveling at 35 miles per hour is five times more likely to die than a person hit by a car traveling at 20 miles per hour.” SB 961 requires the devices to warn drivers of passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses with a single audible and visual signal each time they exceed the speed limit by greater than 10 miles per hour.
