Meticulous, grey realism set the tone, as the sleepy suburbs of Yokosuka played host to a revenge saga, of sorts, its plot nodding to 70s' martial arts classics from Shaw Brothers and Toei studios. You had to get a job in the game, which meant doing a proper day shift at the wheel of a forklift, but you did it for your salary which enabled the fun to truly begin, as you scoured each town, harbour and dojo for distractions. Space Harrier and Hang-On both make a cameo, modestly hidden at the back wall of the You Arcade, and at just ¥100 a credit, each one offers hero Ryo a moment of respite from his greater mission.
