Foray into Fourier

The Fourier Transform. What is it and how does it work? Today we dive particularly deep into some of the maths and intuition behind one of the most useful algorithms of all time. Bonus, at the end of this article we draw my dog Henry with maths.

Now before you immediately exit this blog, I want you to hang around, because todays topics is possibly one of the most important mathematical concepts to be thought up in the last 200 years. The Fourier Transform is also incredibly useful in lots of other fields beyond music, in fact it is used extensively in electronic circuits, earthquake monitoring, wireless communications, noise cancellation and much more. Maths and words can be kind of hard to get right so I have made a little animation below where you can move the point aaa around to see how similar it is to bbb calculated the same formula we came up with above.
