In the meantime, Ford confirmed it is looking to expand into offering “extended range” hybrid powertrains (essentially electric vehicles with a gas generator on board) in order to win over buyers who don’t want to go all-in on battery power. Farley warned that the proposed 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada would cause “billions of dollars” of industry profits to be “wiped out,” would have an “adverse effect on the U.S. jobs” in the auto sector, and would mean “higher prices” for customers. He previously worked at The Verge, where he also covered consumer technology, hosted many short- and long-form videos, performed product and editorial photography, and once nearly passed out in a Red Bull Air Race plane.
